Modeling Bacterial Regrowth and Trihalomethane Formation in Water Distribution Systems

چکیده
The formation of bacterial regrowth and disinfection by-products is ubiquitous in chlorinated water distribution systems (WDSs) operated with organic loads. A generic, easy-to-use mechanistic model describing the fundamental processes governing interrelationship between chlorine, total carbon (TOC), bacteria to analyze spatiotemporal quality variations WDSs was developed using EPANET-MSX. representation multispecies reactions simplified minimize interdependent parameters. physicochemical/biological that cannot be experimentally determined were neglected. effects source characteristics residence time on controlling Trihalomethane (THM) two well-tested under non-chlorinated conditions analyzed by applying model. results established a 100% increase free chlorine concentration 50% reduction TOC at effectuated 5.87 log scale decrement bacteriological activity expense 60% THM formation. sensitivity study showed impact operating network determining parameter sensitivities outputs. maximum specific growth rate constant for bulk phase found most sensitive predicted regrowth.

Bacterial Regrowth in Distribution Systems
Influence of Water Treatment Processes Statistical analyses were conducted with historical data from the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority (SCCRWA) to determine if parameters determined in the treatment plants were related in any way to coliform counts in the distribution system. The analysis indicated that sufficient chlorination for maintaining treatment effluent standards fo...
متن کاملsimulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water
abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...
Trihalomethane formation potential in drinking water from Minab Steghlal dam to water distribution network in Bandar Abbas, Iran
Introduction: Organic matters enter to drinking water from a variety of sources, but one of the major sources of these compounds in aqueous solution can be decomposed plant and microbial residues. Chlorination is the most common method for water disinfection, the free chlorine in the water reacts with natural organic compounds and form disinfection byproducts. One of the dangerous byproducts is...
متن کاملDynamics of Biofilm Regrowth in Drinking Water Distribution Systems
UNLABELLED The majority of biomass within water distribution systems is in the form of attached biofilm. This is known to be central to drinking water quality degradation following treatment, yet little understanding of the dynamics of these highly heterogeneous communities exists. This paper presents original information on such dynamics, with findings demonstrating patterns of material accumu...
